Financial Education for Our Community
An important part of the Abacus Bank mission is educating its communities about fundamental financial knowledge and skills. Every year, Abacus Bank conducts several free seminars in the communities its Branches serve to help people understand the banking system and how banking can support and strengthen people’s quality of life and business growth.
10/01/2020 Abacus Bank and its Chairman, Thomas Sung have provided funding to New York Chinese School for its security and in-class computer systems which are almost completed.
The daughters of Abacus Bank's Chairman Mr. Thomas Sung: Ms. Vera Sung, Director, and Ms. Jill Sung, President/CEO, were invited by the School's principal, Jennifer Wang to visit and review the projects. We all know that the Bank and its Chairman, Thomas Sung, have been a long time supporters of the School.
Abacus Bank Chairman Mr. Thomas Sung’s statement:” I am delighted to hear that the installation of the computer system and the camera security system for the School is almost completed. I understand that the security system is all encompassing, covering the entire building, 62 Mott Street. In a way, the system has some redundancy, because CCBA has an existing security system. Anyway, the added security by the current installed school system will benefit CCBA and other functions sponsored by CCBA, which are all for the benefit of the community. I am glad that we can be of assistance to the school which serves the community. The School has always been close to our hearts.”

7/31/2020 Abacus Bank has distributed $90,000 COVID-19 Small Business Recovery Grant checks from FHLBNY to 10 organizations in our community.
Abacus Bank Director Vera Sung and President Jill Sung have presented the checks of COVID 19 Small Business Recovery Grant, which has been provided and approved by the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York(FHLBNY) to 10 grantees. A total of $90,000 has been given to small businesses and the non-profit organizations in our community who are having difficulty obtaining government financial assistance to help them through this period. Abacus Bank is proud to be participating in this Program to help our community.
Among the 10 grantees, 4 of them are well known non-profit organizations in our community. They are: Fu generation Foundation: $10,000; Chinatown Community Young Lions $10,000; Super Happy Healthy Kids: $10,000; and Stuyvesant High School Alumni Association $10,000.

5/8/2020 Abacus Bank Assisting New York Chinese School by Providing over $75k in Funding Through PPP Loan.
Friday, May 8th, CCBA President Mr. Yu, New York Chinese School Principle Ms. Wang came to Abacus Bank Bowery Branch and received the check of PPP fund from the Abacus Bank President and CEO Ms. Jill Sung and Abacus Bank Board of Director Ms. Vera Sung.
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, small businesses have struggled to provide paychecks to their employees and keep the doors to their business open. With the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) provided by the Small Business Association (SBA), Abacus Bank is working on helping more than 50 local businesses with over $1.7 million in relief funding through PPP.
"We believe it is our duty as a small minority, community bank to bring critical programs like the SBA Payroll Protection Program to our small businesses to help them weather through this dire time." said Abacus Bank President and CEO Jill Sung.

1/4/2020 Abacus Bank has donated $40,000 to help New York Chinese school update the computers and security monitoring system.
Abacus bank Chairman Mr. Thomas Sung believes the purpose of the bank is not only serving the community’s financial need. "We would also like to help with the community in terms of education." he said. According to CCBA president Eric Ng, the New York Chinese School was established in order to promote the Chinese Education in Chinese communities as well as to promote the Chinese Culture. And he also mentioned that Mr. Sung helped the school get the Charter back in 1960s.
The $40,000 donation from Abacus bank will be used for New York Chinese school to buy new computers, projectors, big screens, video cameras, microphones, new security cameras, NVRs, and four computer screens including labors.

As the only Asian-American community bank based in New Jersey and New York that works with the Federal Home Loan Bank and help first time homebuyers get the government grants, Abacus Bank can help eligible first-time buyers get up to $15,000 grant through Homebuyer Dream Program (HDP) for down payment and closing cost. 10/19/2019 Vera Sung, the board of director of Abacus Bank, together with her sister Chanterelle Sung, have been invited to the 4th Annual ABQ Chinese American Film Festival. The screening of Abacus documentary and sharing of the Sung family’s story with the ABQ community made the festival a tremendous success.
